  • I have been a caregiver all my life, to my family and relatives, and in my past profession in dental care. I decided to make a change to work in home care as it would be more one-on-one with the clients. I found Compass and applied for a PSS (personal support specialist) role. I could tell from the start that this company was different; they cared about their clients and staff. This job gives me a variety in the care I give. It may be light housekeeping, or shopping and cooking nutritious meals for the client. They may need more personal care or just a steady hand to walk outside to get some fresh air. I’m very glad I made the career change; the heartfelt appreciation from both my clients and employer is what truly matters.

  • Working as a companion has given me the opportunity to grow as a human being and to live with respect and admiration for each person's unique gifts, needs, and challenges. I enjoy adapting to those needs. It is a privilege to help make my clients - my friends'- live safer and more satisfying lives. That's my goal. That's the Compass goal.

  • I enjoy being a caregiver and find it deeply rewarding. My clients have opened up my mind to all sorts of different dimensions of the human experience. I learn something new at each encounter and continue to be amazed at the courage and generosity of spirit in my clients. I'm grateful to work as a team member with other committed care givers under the umbrella of a dedicated and knowledgeable agency.

  • We all have a voice at Compass. I have a voice and am heard at Compass which is personally and professionally important to me. I am valued and appreciated. I love my clients, my colleagues, and my work for Compass.

  • Being a caregiver to me means truly showing up for someone. Not just because it’s my job, but because I care about making a difference in each client’s life. I take the time to learn who they are—their routines, their preferences, and what makes them feel comfortable and safe. It’s about listening, being present, and treating every person with respect, because they are no less of a human than I am. I believe in preserving independence whenever possible, while also stepping in with compassion and care when support is needed.

  • Some clients require more hands-on care, while others simply need companionship—someone to sit with them, talk, and make them feel less alone. No matter the level of care, I aim to make each person feel seen, valued, and comfortable. Being a caregiver isn’t always easy, but it’s meaningful to me because I know I’m making a difference in someone’s life, even in the smallest ways.

  • Knowing you are able to provide care, comfort and just being present when family members cannot...gives such a sense of accomplishment. Knowing you are improving the client's quality of life...giving the best care possible and making a difference in their daily lives....is extremely rewarding!

What we look for.

We are not looking for someone to fill a shift. We’re looking for people who genuinely care about this line of work. People who notice, who listen, who show up for their clients.

Experience as a CNA, PSS, home health aide, or direct care worker is preferred. We also welcome caregivers from hospitality, education, family caregiving, or other fields that require patience and genuine interpersonal skills. Training can be provided to enhance care skills if needed.

All applicants must be able to pass multiple State of Maine background checks. Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.
